Temperature and Specific Heat Capacity

The Wiki page on TEMPERATURE is a great place to start to develop your understanding (the very last section is a little beyond us but the rest is perfect).

You need to be able to explain why different materials would have different SHCs and to understand the effect that it has on the way their temperature changes as HEAT ENERGY enters or leaves the system.
